BERKLEY DUCKSON AWARD

In honor of the sudden passing of TCU Sigma Chi 2020 Pledge Brother, Berkeley Duckson, in February of 2021, the TCU Sigma Chi Parents Club is started a scholarship in his honor.

Berkley had an innate sense of kindness and compassion.  He always seemed to know when someone needed a word of encouragement or an extra hand.  We feel these characteristics are compatible with the Jordan Standards of Sigma Chi, especially the trait of a “congenial disposition”.  Having a congenial disposition means being kind, happy, thoughtful, outgoing, friendly, and compassionate. He is someone who people are drawn to because he makes them feel good about themselves. He makes them feel loved and respected.

While the main purpose of the TCU Sigma Chi Parents Club is to award academic scholarships and provide material needs for the Chapter House, we feel it is equally important not only to honor the memory of Berkley, but to appreciate similar qualities in each of you.

Every year, each year the Chapter will anonymously nominate someone in the Chapter they feel is deserving of the Berkley Duckson Scholarship. The person with the most nominations will be the recipient of the scholarship.  This is not a popularity contest.  This person should uphold all Sigma Chi standards; a man of good character, a good student, have ambitious purpose, have good morals, have a high sense of honor, and a deep sense of personal responsibility.

The recipient will have their name engraved on a plaque that hangs in the Chapter House and receive a $500 financial award. The recipient will be announced and awarded during Moms Weekend.
